How To Organise Your Wardrobe

Guest blog by Eliza

The wardrobe is a space in our home that can become overwhelming and cluttered if we don’t implement practical solutions. As it is a space that we are constantly pulling from, returning items to, and leaving in a state that is not ideal, attention must be paid. Today we are sharing with you our step-by-step process of organising a wardrobe and implementing solutions that will save you time in the long run and make your day-to-day life easier.

Step 1: Declutter

The first, most obvious and arguably the least fun step, is to declutter the wardrobe. The best way to do this is to take all items out of the space and lay them on a surface such as the bed or floor area. From there you can go through each item individually and sort into piles of keep, donate, storage and throw away. We recommend asking yourself a few questions during this process such as ‘have I worn this in the past 12 months?’, ‘do I see myself wearing this item next season?’ and ‘Is this item in a good condition?’.

Step 2: Take Inventory & Measurements

Now that you have gotten over the hurdle of decluttering the space it is time to take inventory of all the items you have left that will be returning to the wardrobe. It is best to sort clothing into categories of tops, bottoms, knitwear, activewear, dresses, suits etc and sort shoes and bags by style and size. From there you can now take measurements of the wardrobe to ensure you purchase any storage solutions that are the correct size and shape and maximise the use of the space.

Step 3: Storage Solutions

Wardrobe storage solutions make organising this well-used space a breeze. There are plenty of different storage solutions on the market and it can be hard to know what will function best and be suitable long term. Our go-to hanger for hanging clothing is thin, felt hangers as they allow for a larger capacity and stop your items from falling off. We love using baskets for items such as bags, hats and accessories and also seasonal items such as knitwear and swimwear. Stackable shoe racks are perfect for lining the bottom of wardrobes to allow for easy access to footwear and to make use of the height. For accessories we also love using items such as clutch bag dividers, clear shoe boxes and acrylic headband and belt storage solutions.

Step 4: Zones

Lastly, we recommend organising your wardrobe into zones that best suit you and your daily activities. Grouping items by type and then by colour, we find is the best solution for all hanging items. Then you can group like-minded categories together such as casual wear, workwear and going out clothes. This allows for easy access and a streamlined approach to getting ready as you know exactly which zone to reach for, for each occasion.
